Do we know God or Just know about Him

Do we know God or Just know about Him

“A right understanding of who God is will revolutionize my life” Dr. Bill Bright (late)

Who is God to me?  Who is God to you? Who is God to us?

When one is unwell, the obvious thing to do is call the doctor’s office (or 911 if its an emergency) to make an appointment, or get advice from the nurse.    We have faith, first, that the doctor will have an answer to the ailment, and the right treatment.

But what do we believe about God? Who is He to you and me?  When it comes to prayer, do we really believe that God hears and will answer?  Many times after I have prayed, I still find myself getting anxious over the issue I’ve prayed about.

Let’s look at Moses, who knew the power and might of God.  Please read Exodus 14, the whole chapter to understand the story.  But Ex. 14:13 says “And Moses said to the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, which He will accomplish for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall see again no more forever. 14 The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace.”  Moses had no doubt that God would save them: his was a matter-of-fact statement.  I pray that whatever fears you may be facing today, that you will see the salvation of the Lord in your life and in the lives of your loved ones, in Jesus Name!

In 1 Sam. 24:6 “And he said to his men, “The Lord forbid that I should do this thing to my master, the Lord’s anointed, to stretch out my hand against him, seeing he is the anointed of the Lord.“ 1 Samuel 26:9 “Do not destroy him; for who can stretch out his hand against the Lord’s anointed, and be guiltless?”   This is David saying of Saul, who had been pursuing him (David) to kill him.  David got a chance or an opportunity where he could have killed Saul, his enemy, but David feared God, for He knew God.  If you are faced with a situation that may cause you to compromise, I pray that your faith will rise, and believe God to make a way of escape for you, in Jesus Name!  Don’t just do the natural thing as the world would but trust God for your rescue! What looks like the answer to your problem may not be. David knew that God’s answer would not contradict God’s commandments.

I remember some years ago when one of our boys told me that his stomach had been hurting for a couple of days.  I told him that if it didn’t stop hurting that day, we would go to the doctor.  He stopped me and said, “… but mom, we can just pray and God will heal me, after all the doctor just treats and God does the healing..”  On the faith of our son, we prayed, he was healed and didn’t have to go to the doctor!  But I can tell you that we’ve made trips to the doctor since that time.  Do we fail by going to the doctor instead of praying? No, but we need to remember to go to God first because God is God and can heal through prayer alone, but may also heal through the doctor.

Phillipians 4:6,7 says, “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”

What are you faced with right now?  What is/are your requests?  Where is your focus, on God or on the challenge ahead of you?  My prayer for us is that we may know God, the One and Only true God.  That we may experience His love, His amazing grace today, and as we trust Him with our cares and needs, we will experience His peace.
